Which type of treestand do you use?

Got questions about archery supplies, or want to write a review on some archery equipment...this is the place.

Which type of treestand do you use?

Postby brianerixon on Tue Aug 18, 2009 5:41 pm

I was wondering what type of treestands you use(climer, hang ons, ladder) and if you have a brand choice, I have two big game ladder stands and a big game XL Nice large stand but heavy, I think gorrila stands would be good.

I use a ladder and a climber. Doesn't matter to me who makes the ladder stand, theyr'e IMO all the same. But my climber is an API Grand Slam and it is the best all around stand out there

I use the following stands for varying situations:

Lone Wolf hand climber
Lone Wolf Alpha Hang on
Gorilla treestands (I have baby gorillas, Kongs, etc. Several of the babies have been out in the woods for 10 years)
API stand (been in the woods for years. Needs some lubricant for when I sit it this year)
Walmart stands (have a climber base in a tree, and a cheap chain on up that's been there for 5 or 6 years)
I also have a Trophyline Ambush Saddle.

I generally use screw in steps, but I have 6 Lone Wolf strap on steps for different situations, and I have 6 Rapid Rails up two different trees right now

Gorilla stands are great. Easy to hang and the seat pad is very comfortable. Now I'm talking about the older ones. I have no experience with the newer ones that look like Lone Wolf copies.

With the type of trees in Manitoba I can't use climers and hang ons are hard to set up but Gorrila makes ladder stand with a platform that sticks out so does ameristep I'd like to try one of them.

Most other ladder stands platform are small and dont stick out making it hard to stand up

Do any of you have a menards store nearby they have really cheap treestands.

Gorilla stands primarily due to the cost. I also prefer to have the simple chain link attachment.

Brian, summit does make hang on stands, but they screwed up all their measurements (stand sizes) so we removed them from our store, but besides that terrible mistake, summit is generally one of the best. Though the gorilla hang-ons are def. our best sellers this year.

Gorrilla sure seems to have the weight to size ratio downpat.
