What are the best strategies for rattling after the rut
Question:
I’ve always used rattling before the rut with good results, usually. I don’t see why it wouldn’t work right after the rut too. Is that a good time to rattle? Why or why not? What are the best strategies for rattling after the rut?
Answer:
Rattling after the peak of the rut will work great. Bucks are still somewhat aggressive at that time and studies show that your chances of calling in a big one are a little better after the peak of breeding than at any other time. Rattle near a bedding area in conjunction with using a tarsal gland or dominant buck scent. This seems to really make big bucks mad. Leave a trail with the buck urine and set up in a place where you can keep your human odor from blowing in the direction the buck hopefully will come from. Your normal rattling sequence will work fine at this time.
